Vedic electional astrology for choosing a supportive beginning.
Muhurat (also spelled Muhurta) is the Vedic science of electional astrology—the art of selecting the most auspicious time to begin an important activity. Based on the principle that the cosmic configuration at the moment of initiation influences the course of an undertaking, Muhurat analysis examines the five Panchang elements: Tithi, Nakshatra, Yoga, Karana and Vaara, together with local timing and planetary positions.
A well-chosen Muhurat aims to align an activity with favourable cosmic conditions. The first layer is universal and applies to everyone at the selected place. When birth details are provided, the finder adds a personal layer drawn from the natal chart. This dual approach helps distinguish a generally auspicious time from one that is also supportive for the individual.
Each activity carries different astrological requirements. A wedding may favour gentle or fixed Nakshatras and benefic Horas, while travel benefits from movable combinations and a business launch prioritises commerce and growth factors. That is why the same date can rank strongly for one purpose and poorly for another.
This tool covers 23 occasions, from life-cycle Samskaras to practical decisions involving home, finance, career and travel.

Every candidate window is evaluated against activity-specific rules rather than a single generic “good time” label.
The Muhurat Finder divides the selected date range into location-accurate windows and evaluates each one. Its universal score considers the favourability of Tithi, Nakshatra, Yoga, Karana, weekday, Hora, elected Lagna, supporting planetary placement and the cleanliness of the available time window.
It screens out or penalises periods such as Rahu Kalam, Yamaganda, Gulika Kalam where required, Dur Muhurta, Varjyam, Vishti Karana and locally visible eclipse Sutak. For activities that traditionally observe longer restrictions, the engine also checks Chaturmas, Adhik Maas and Pitru Paksha. Regional conventions can differ, so these are applied transparently and presented with cautions.
When birth details are supplied, the universal score is combined with four personal factors: Tara Bala, Chandra Bala, compatibility of the elected Lagna with the natal Lagna, and simplified Vimshottari Mahadasha alignment. Personalization can therefore change the ranking without hiding the underlying universal score.
The result cards show the main factors so you can understand why a time ranked well—or why caution remains.
Tithi, Nakshatra, Yoga, Karana and Vaara form the foundation. Their value changes with the selected activity.
A clean beginning should avoid overlapping inauspicious daily windows wherever the selected tradition requires it.
Optional natal details add a personal compatibility layer without replacing the universal result.
Wedding, travel, finance, surgery and spiritual practice do not use the same Nakshatras, Horas or Lagnas.
How to interpret and use the ranked Muhurat windows.
The 0–100 score is a transparent ranking of the factors evaluated for the selected activity. Excellent and Very Good windows have the strongest combined support. A score does not guarantee an outcome, and a lower score may still be workable when practical constraints are considered.
Personalization is useful when the event belongs primarily to one person, such as joining a job, beginning education or making a major personal commitment. A universal search is often sufficient for a first shortlist or when several people are involved.
Extend the date range, remove a time-of-day preference, or review the strongest fallback windows with their cautions. Some seasonal restrictions or local eclipse periods can correctly leave a range with no recommended result.
Yes. General Auspicious Activities, travel, purchases and spiritual practice can be used for ordinary planning. For a quick day-level check, the separate Panchang page remains useful.
No. Emergency medical care must never be delayed. Court deadlines, contractual duties and professional financial analysis always take priority. Muhurat is an optional cultural or spiritual timing layer, not a substitute for qualified advice.
Muhurat Shastra—the science of electional astrology—is one of the oldest practical branches of Jyotish. Classical works dedicated to Muhurat include Muhurat Chintamani by Daivagna Rama, Kalaprakashika, and relevant sections of Brihat Samhita by Varahamihira. They preserve detailed rules for selecting times for ceremonies, travel, construction, governance and many other undertakings.
The practice remains deeply woven into Indian cultural life. Its underlying principle is that the moment of initiation carries its own astrological birth chart—often described as a Prashna Kundali—that can influence the course of the undertaking. Modern calculation can make astronomical boundaries precise for a location, but family, regional and lineage-specific customs still matter. For major rites, use the result as a clear shortlist and confirm any required local conventions with a trusted practitioner.
