How to read planetary aspects

An aspect is an angle between two geocentric planetary longitudes. This page separates what is active now from exact contacts before and after your chosen moment.

What the main aspects describe

Conjunctions combine, sextiles and trines support flow, squares create productive friction, and oppositions ask for balance. Minor aspects add adjustment, pressure or creative detail.

Why an aspect can repeat

Retrograde motion can make the same pair perfect an angle more than once. Each exact pass is kept in the timeline instead of being merged into one date.

Exact time versus orb

The exact event is the instant the angle is mathematically precise. An orb is the surrounding interval in which astrologers may treat the aspect as active.

Sidereal and tropical display

Changing zodiac display changes sign labels, not the time of a planet-to-planet angular aspect, because the same ayanamsa offset is applied to both longitudes.

Planetary aspects questions

Does birthplace change a planetary aspect time?

No for geocentric planet-to-planet aspects. The selected place or timezone only converts the universal instant into the clock time you read locally.

Are Rahu and Ketu included?

Yes. Choose mean or true Rahu; Ketu is calculated exactly 180° opposite it. Their permanent mutual opposition is shown as a node axis, not repeated as endless events.

Does an aspect guarantee an event?

No. Aspect timing is a symbolic astrological layer. Personal charts, context, choices and practical facts still matter.
