How PlanetPosition calculates Kundli and Panchang
This page documents the main astronomical and traditional conventions used by the calculator so that results can be reviewed and reproduced.
Birth time and location
The entered civil time is interpreted in the selected IANA timezone and converted to Universal Time before Swiss Ephemeris calculations. Latitude and longitude are used for the Ascendant, houses, sunrise and sunset. A wrong timezone or approximate birth time can materially change a chart.
Zodiac and planetary positions
PlanetPosition uses geocentric sidereal longitudes with the Lahiri ayanamsha by default. The report states whether mean or true Rahu is selected. D1 uses whole-sign placement for the main house summaries, while the report identifies any separate bhava-centre method used in advanced tables.
Panchang and Hora
Tithi is derived from the angular separation of the Moon and Sun. Nakshatra, Yoga and Karana are calculated for the selected moment. Daytime Hora divides sunrise to sunset into twelve equal periods; nighttime Hora divides sunset to the following sunrise into twelve equal periods.
Dasha, Yoga and Dosha rules
Vimshottari periods follow the traditional 120-year planetary sequence. Yoga and Dosha definitions can vary by text and lineage, so the report shows the supported rule, match evidence and status instead of claiming one universal list.
